Club member Margaret Northam informed me of this event for next year and thought members might be interested:

According to website, this race consists of relay teams who paddle a canoe or kayak, bike, and then run. Looks like fun!

2nd Annual YMCA Women’s Tri – call for volunteers

The Frederick YMCA Women’s Triathlon is scheduled for Sept 26. I’ve said to the YMCA coordinator Maria Rubeling that I’d see about getting folks from the club to volunteer at the water stop on the run (and I’d be there myself). I also know at least one other club member who will be there. Maria happily agreed and we’ll be again manning a water stop on 16th Street. Anyone else?

In addition, I’m arranging to have folks at Packet Pickup to represent the club and “wave the flag” for the club there. Details still in the works but it looks like I’ve been given the “go-ahead” for that as well.

Volunteering gives back to the sport that we all enjoy and you get to see an event from a different aspect. And since it will be hosted again by Racine Multisports, our new club banner will be flying at this event this year.

Let me know by the week prior if you would. I’ll send out a reminder notice that week. I’ll forward your name to Maria and see where you can be used.

Looking for others to ride with

I’m interested in hooking up with high level B+ or higher riders for training rides. I can ride most anytime on the weekends so long as I plan in advance with the wife and family. For weekday rides it has to be 6 pm or after as I come from Crystal City back to Adamstown. I feel confident rolling 21+ mph avg with group for 40 miles in rollers. If interested shoot me an E-mail

In case you didn’t receive a Winter Sale flyer in the mail, just a couple of highlights… In addition to some bike service specials, they are offering some classes on fixing flats (there is a women’s specific one too), basic road and/or mountain bike maintenance, and a women’s introduction to triathlon.

Flats – Jan 19, Feb 9
Women’s Flats – Feb 16
Road Bike Maint – Jan 26
MTB Maint – Feb 2
Women’s Tri – Feb 23

All classes start at 6 and reservations are required. 301.663.9288

There is also a plug for the Sunday am rides that start currently at 9am. They ride at above 25 degrees with no precip or frozen patches on roads. Distance varies from 30-50 and pace at about 16-18.

Wetsuit for Sale

I have a medium Quintana Roo Superfull wetsuit for sale. I purchased it in 2003 and have used it twice – once for a cold beach swim and another time for the Delaware Diamondman Triathlon. One of the lower legs had a pull tear, but I repaired it with AquaSeal and the fix was proven during the DDT race. I am asking $100 OBO. Please contact me if you have any questions.

It’s Fall! But…Watch the leaves

Hey club!

As I see the leaves falling from the trees this Fall, just like to remind you to be careful biking through large areas of leaves as you never know what holes are underneath. Also, wet leaves can be very slippery on road surfaces. So, take it easy on those rides while enjoying the Fall foliage.

Compu Trainer sessions organizing

Now that Fall has arrived and Winter’s not too far behind, time to start thinking about your off-season training. Club member Vicki Bate is taking the lead here and organizing CT sessions at Kelley Acres Speed Shop.

From Vicki:

”We will be organizing a computrainer class again this winter on Sunday early mornings. If you are interested, please let me know. Probably be 2 to 3 hours for 20 sessions starting @ January, 2010. The cost could be as low as $250 for the entire winter session, Sundays 8-11 AM . In addition, if anyone would like to investigate the possibility of a weeknight class, let me know and I can try and work something out with Chris Kelley.”

Note that the price may vary here depending on what could be setup with Chris.
