Club Meeting Feb 11 at Bike Doctor Frederick

bike_doctor_logo_thumbnail

Our next club meeting will be at our sponsor Bike Doctor of Frederick on Wed Feb 11 at 7PM.  I’ve asked Brian Wisowaty, the shop owner, if he or one of his folks will talk to the club about bike repairs you might need to do while racing.  This would include flats (clincher and tubular), small tire slice, chain problems, spoke breaks, CO2 catridges, etc.  Members may also share their experiences with what worked for them as well afterwards.

Folks interested in the club are welcome as well!

See you there!

November Club Meeting on 11/12 7:30 PM

As my first official act as the new FTC “The Tribe” President, I’d like to announce the first meeting of the club’s third year.

The meeting will be held Wed Nov 12 at 7:30 PM at Chris and Fred Kelley’s new Compu Trainer facility in Middletown, which is run on their property aptly named Kelley’s Acres.  We’ll first be discussing club business, introduce the new officers, and discuss any other new business that members would like to bring to the meeting.  This month and next will also be the best time to turn in membership dues, but we’ll have to ensure we get the club account turned over to our new Treasurer first.  Probably will be our first order of business and we’ll get that straightened out so you can pay your dues.

After club business, Chris will talk about the Compu Trainer, their new facility, and ways the club could schedule its use as a whole.  We discussed this a bit last month and some folks have also tried the facilty out (including yours truly).  So, I thought it would be good to see if more people would like to come out to Chris and Fred’s just to take a gander and then decide how to make use of it, personally and perhaps clubwise.

Pleae note the meeting time change above.  Due to a Compu Trainer session ending at 7PM, our club meeting will begin at 7:30PM.

Directions to Chris and Fred’s:

Take Rt. 70W to Exit 49 Braddock Heights/Middletown exit. At the light turn left onto Alt 40W. Go approx. 4mi. to the center of Middletown and turn right on RT17N (Myersville Road). The entrance to their drive is approx. 2mi. on the left at 8414. Look for the mailbox and a 3 rail white fence. Follow the fence down the lane. You can’t see the house from the road. Park near the circle.

BTW, Chris says to bring a soft bag chair or something to sit on.  Yeah, there’s really not a seating area at the facility.

Anyway, come out to meet your new officers, say hi to fellow club members, meet new ones, and check out Chris and Fred’s Compu Trainer facility!

April Meeting

Our next meeting will be on Wed 4/9 at 7 PM at Ft Detrick.  Club member Mike Matney will give a talk about “Nutrition and the Endurance Athlete”.  Directions and info from the 7th Street entrance:

There will be a brief security screening of vehicles prior to entering the post, (recommend that do not bring any guns or illegal substances on post, as you are entering a military post) and you will need an photo ID for everyone in the vehicle.   Plan on spending a few extra minutes for security screening.   If asked, tell security you’re going to building 1520 for a class with the Triathlon club.

Once you come in the gate make a right at the light on Porter street, drive about 1/3 mile and on make the right onto Freedman Drive, (For a reference there is a building on the corner of Porter and Freedman called the rally point)

Once you turn onto Freedman drive,  drive to the very end of the street, and park in one of the two parking lots.  Again, the building number is 1520, we will meet in classroom 4.

Eva Rosvold, owner and operator of Fundamental Fitness, one of our potential new sponsors, will be coming in to talk to us about V02 Max testing and other fitness testing.  I think this will be a really neat talk and help us all understand our caloric needs and metabolic conditioning.  As always the meeting will be at 7pm.  We’ll be meeting at Bike Doctor on Buckeystown Pike (route 85).
