TriItNow events/clinic

Hey club!  Check out the events and clinic hosted by TriItNow folks down in Manassas.  They seem to cater to folks looking to do their first tri and also for folks looking for a close event that’s short so they can “tri” and see how their training has been going.  Warm up for later events.

Also some kids events too!  A great family affair.  Link:

First tri?  May be just the ticket for you.

FTC member in the News – Julian Coiner: California Ironman 70.3

FTC member Julian Coiner mentioned in California Ironman 70.3 news article:

California Ironman 70.3 Update

Eleven CEOs are signed up for the AIG CEO Challenge at the Ford California Ironman 70.3 in Oceanside on March 29. These 11 CEOs head up companies with a combined $2.8 Billion in annual revenue, and include Brent de Jong, founder of AEI, a company the delivers energy to 6.1 million customers, and has 11,800 employees. Also racing in California is long-time CEO Challenge supporter, John Schlagenhauf of Badger Truck Center in Wisconsin – this will be John’s ninth CEO Challenge event (including the very first one in Lake Placid in 2001)! Other CEO Challenge ‘alumni’ include Adam Alonso of EMS, Lonnie Hunter of Bennet DeLoney & Noyes, and Jimmy Palma of LAPT Investments. The winner of the CEO Challenge in California will earn a much coveted slot to Kona, Hawaii where they will meet 9 others for the CEO Ironman World Championship, and battle for the title of ‘Fittest CEO in the World’. Based purely on past performance, it looks like the front-runner for the win in California is John Schlagenhauf, who finished Ford Ironman USA Lake Placid in 10:52. However, we expect strong competition from Bryan Gonzalez of Channel Electric (5:22 at Honu), Julian Coiner of 007 Real Estate (11:51 at Ford Ironman Florida) and Brent de Jong (12:00 at Ironman UK).Regardless of who wins, the CEOs are in for a great weekend in California. It all kicks off with a fantastic Dinner with the Pros on Thursday night at the La Costa Resort, and will wind up with the CEO Awards Dinner in Carlsbad on Saturday night. For more information on the CEOs entered in the event please go to www.ceochallenges.com/profiles.

2008 Event Schedule

Here’s my plan, tentatively, for the season.  I have reg forms for the Walkersville/Heritage 5K to bring to the next meeting.  It may be too short a distance for some of you, but it benefits the reading programs at Glade & Walkersville Elementary Schools.  I hope the links work!

Training partners and ability group rides

Hey everyone!

If anyone is interested would like to get some feedback on ability group rides for the weekends.  I think we can have up to three types of groups A, B and C.  If anyone is interested in helping lead (navigate) one of the groups let me know.   Even though we are all responsible for ourselves on the road, safety and rules of the road are paramount for leaders and individuals who would want to participate.

I would be glad to help on Saturday rides for A and B rides (mainly A, occasionally B).  I usually ride starting in the Walkersville area and sometimes out near Middletown, or route 67 with Dave Miller.  Occasionally make the trek up to the WMRT in Hancock,  Looking at a “nice” hill ride from Gambrill to Catoctin Falls at least once this year.   Most rides will be 1.5 hours to 3.5 hours in length, you can always get more or less once you learn your way around.  Every other Saturday is a brick.

I would also help with runs on Sunday afternoons or evenings on Fort Detrick (flat) sometimes out at Gambrill/Watershed on hill days.  If you are interested in helping or participating post your feedback please.

I have open slots for swimming on Fort Detrick as well. It costs four dollars and the slots are Friday evenings between 5-7 PM or Tuesday 6 AM.

Hope your training is going well!

Mike
